Hey all,

Like the title says, my boat started steering REALLY hard to starboard under power. Steering is easy to port under power, and easy both ways at idle. It was doing just fine last weekend, and I've made no changes to the prop/steering or anything. No funny noises. It's a regular belt-driven power steering pump. Belt tension seems good.

After the first instance, I checked the power steering fluid, and it was not showing on the stick. I filled it up, and still have the same problem.

Does the system just need to be bled?

Thanks!

I would try to bleed the system first, but this may have already been done. Simply turn it from lock to lock about 5 times. However, if the system was low I'm left wondering where the leak is... It may help to know what motor and outdrive you have.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. It's a Volvo Penta GL5. I replaced the base motor a couple years ago with a 5.7L.

Cheers
