I was seeing oil in the bildge and trying to find the leak, then while out for a cruise I noticed a "groan" when steering, The power steering resevoir was not regeistering on the stick. I refilled and of course the groaning went away. The question is.... where should I be looking for the leak?? Thanks a million...Rick

oil inside the boat= internal leakage, hoses, connections, steering cylinder
no oil inside= power steering cooler

Often where the lines connect to either the steering actuator near the rear of the engine starboard side or at the pump.

Ayuh,... The Whole P/S system consists of the Pump(on the motor), the Hi-pressure line to the Actuator(at the transom), 'n the low-pressure line to the Cooler(usually under the portside motor mount), then back to the Pump again...

It can be leaking at Any point, ya just gotta Look...

Lemme guess, your boat is raw water cooled and run in the salt?

That would point to your oil cooler...

If you traced the lines from the pump to the back of the boat, then you had to pass the cooler on the way. Should be on the back of the engine. Trace the water hose from the transom shield to the engine, it's the first thing to see cooling water.

Ayuh,... As noted by Don, ya couldn't have looked very hard,...
The Cooler is in the return line back to the pump...
