Sounds like you have air in your hydraulic ram or lines running to it..

I don't know the procedure to remove the air on your system but on Teleflex there's a filler plug on the steering helm which the hydraulic lines attach to the back of that helm.

If you have one, you can attach a hose to your Qt of hydraulic fluid.. insert the hose into the filler plug submerging it into the existing fluid and hold the bottle up in the air like upside down.

Poke a tiny hole in the bottom of the Qt container keeping the hose submerged at all times.

While in this mode.. turn the wheel all the way right and left and you'll see air bubbles appear in the container if there's air in the system.

Keep turning the wheel all the way right slow then all the way left till all the bubbles are gone.

Now try to remove the hose without dumping fluid all over the place like I did when I was doing mine one day.

Hope this helps you out some..
Pat customerservice@401hosting.com
Captain,
Motor has power steering pump on it. I disconnected steering cable and their was very little play from cable to steering wheel and helm. I can move the steering ram about 1/4 inch each way.
