Power steering or not...That is the question

Last fall I purchased a 1994 VIP vision with low hours but much parked in the barn time (60 hours on the boat, not in water since 2008) long story short, it was not winterized and thus ruined the block... I have since purchased a parts boat (1987 SeaRay) with an almost new engine to use in my boat, (2004 replacement 3.0 mercruiser with 30.3 hours on the meter) My VIP has good tight steering but the Searay had power steering. Is there any advantage to installing the power steering onto my VIP or should I just sell it off to offset my cost of the parts boat?

Howdy,

Welcome aboard!

It would be totally up to you. I know they do put PS on 135hp boats all the time.

If everything was working good and the boat was in running condx, I wouldn't pull it apart just to put PS in it.

But if you have it completely apart and everything is there to do the job, it might be worth it. I don't think you're going to get a LOT of money for the used parts.

All that stuff is only worth a couple of tanks of fuel at best.....

Cheers,

Rick
