Could any one tell me wat all I need to install a power steering pump on my 3.7 mercruiser. I know I need the pump and hoses & belt, but where do I need to route the hoses too?
Thanks

The hoses go to the control valve, which is on the inner transom plate where steering cable attaches. And if you don't have a pump you don't have one. 'nutcase

Whoa! Little touchy there! From your post one could only assume that you are adding PS to a boat that does not presently have it. You did not mention the PS actuator in your list of have to have's, so nutcase gave a correct answer to a perhaps poorly worded question. If you do not have an actuator in place you have nowhere for the PS hoses to attach. Try downloading Mercruiser Manual #8, look in the PS section it will show how to rout the hoses. As for rudeness perhaps a little self reflection is in order.

sorry ERICCARR ......nutcase can be a bit obfuscating at times, but basically what he says is true ...the consideration here is that this is not a walk in the park type job ...you got to have the right pump and right brackets to exactly fit your engine and you have to have the entire powersteering set up on your inner transom plate, steering cylinder etc. ....... I would start by getting a SELOC or similar manual for your engine ..... then you can see exactly how the whole thing goes together.

I remember Merc hose sets being very pricey, if so, you can get them made up by the local hydaulic shop in your area, but make sure they understand you need power steering hose.

Stony,
The question was NOT poorly worded, try reading it. Alls I simply asked was what allI needed to install the power steering unit on my boat. Im new to boating so I did NOT know that I needed this actuator on the plate. I just dont understand why people on here cant seem to answer a simple question WITHOUT having an attitude....
Intrepid, Thank you for posting a proper post on here. EDIT Once again, thank you for not being rude..

NOTE: I have had to edit commets from 2 of your post. Time you calm down and watch what and how YOU make comments about others.

So if someone enlightens you, they are being rude?

Actually, this is simply presumptuous, which is pretty much Nutcase's MO, and not intended to offend I'm sure;

"The hoses go to the control valve, which is on the inner transom plate where steering cable attaches. And if you don't have a pump you don't have one".

This is enlightening; (intrepidvoyager)

"you got to have the right pump and right brackets to exactly fit your engine and you have to have the entire power steering set up on your inner transom plate, steering cylinder etc. ....... I would start by getting a SELOC or similar manual for your engine ..... then you can see exactly how the whole thing goes together".

Further, Ericcarr...your question wasn't poorly stated, but it did lack enough information to give you a definitive answer. When I read your original post, I didn't know if you were repairing or upgrading. It was a little confusing to me too.

There is a lot of excellent help on here, so don't get frustrated. The more info you provide, the better quality answers you'll get.
