Hi everyone, this past weekend the power steering pump bracket snapped (part number 13 on this diagram ) on my 1995 3.0lx Mercruiser.

http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...4&bnbr=240&bdesc=POWER+STEERING+PUMP+ASSEMBLY

I have ordered the part but looks like in order to replace the bracket and get at the bolts holding it in place i will need to remove the pulley from the pump. The shop manual states i need to use a Kent-Moore Tool J-25034 to remove the pulley, looks very similar to a flywheel puller for a motorcycle.
Before I spend the $120 on the puller does anyone have any other suggestions about how the heck to separate the pulley ?
Wondering if I will have to bring the pump to the dealer and have them remove it, half hour of labor would still be cheaper than the puller !!
Anyone else have experience removing it ?
Thanks !!

Re: Power steering pump pulley

Got the pully off, the autozone gm puller did the trick.
So now putting everything back together I realized that i am missing two spacers -

On this diagram they are parts #18.

Apparently these are some magical spacers at $4.50 a pop. Does anyone have any idea how thick they are or what material they are made of ? I may take a trip to the hardware store instead of waiting another week for these things to come in.....

Re: Power steering pump pulley

According to these guys its 1" Outside Diameter x .125" thick.
Now just need to find out if anyone can see if they are metal or rubber ?! Anyone mind taking a look at their pump ? :)

This washer, and the related ones in the diagram, are steel spacers to take up the gap between the pump and slightly wider bracket. The goal is to not have "too much" gap for the pump to slide with the mounting/adjusting bolts loose, with good belt alignment. Nothing really magic about the Mercruiser/GMC washers other than they are already the proper thickness, feel free to substitute hardware items as needed to get back in business, noting the dimensions in the other post.

just in from the garage, disassembling the same PS bracket on my Mercruiser, looking up Kent Moore Tools J-25034 for the pulley.
