Well, on memorial day we took the boat out and everything was working fine, but as my luck would have it my power t&t unit is stuck in the down position and will not raise up. The problem began yesterday as the up cycle would work most of the time but sporadically not work. As the day went on it just completely quit working and is fully down. When I hit the trim down button I could hear the motor running. When trim up, nothing. As per the service manual I changed the manual release valve earlier in the year due to a leakdown problem, so that part is new. I switched the relays and same problem. Both the buttons on the motor and on the throttle have the same symptoms. Please guide me to possibly fix this so I can enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend. Motor model #J90VLSSS

fluid?

if it was working yesterday and now it isn't ... but you can hear the motor spinning ...
then it's probably either needing fluid or an ugly repair. If it needs fluid then where's the leak?
If it has fluid then my guess would be that you need an 0435343.
But they are kind of expensive so a little checking up would be in order.

If you DO NOT hear the trim motor running, it will not work in that direction.

Your first thought-relays-was a good one. However, you need to go deeper into the electrics.

You can save yourself a lot of guessing by jumping past the relays and switches.

oops, ty DJ. My bad, I thought he heard the motor running but the system wasn't moving. if the motor isn't humming then please ignore the post about fluid level.

Re: Power t&t problem 2000 Johnson 90

I have the exact same problem with my 1999 model 90 horse. My problem is in a small shut-off switch in the front of the motor. The trim wires run to this switch, which has a post that is depressed and (I assume) shuts off the trim when the motor is in the fully "up" position.

I don't know what this switch is called, and I can't find it on any wiring diagrams. I found your post while looking for this information! Anyways, I can wiggle the wires going into this switch, and the trim UP will work again, at least for a little while. If you can manage to depress the button and wiggle these wires gently, it may work. If so, this switch is your problem. Good luck! I hope to find a replacement for mine tomorrow, but my nearest Johnson dealer is about 90 minutes away from me, and I am having NO luck finding the part online.

Figured it out today on the water, the high limit switch is messed up somehow. Bumped the switch a few times and added some WD-40 and it works just fine. I will order a new one this week to avoid further problems, thanks for the help. Jm_bullard hit the nail on the head. Here is the part number... 0585141 SWITCH ASSY., Tilt limit

Thanks npd4432. I found the tilt limit switch in a repair manual at a local dealer this morning, and it should arrive Thursday morning. Glad I could be of help. I'm not right very often!
