Well----The 77 and 79 trim units are not the same.------There are possibilities.----If you have the 1979 midsection with trim then the 77 powerhead and lower unit fit on that.-----Sorry----I am not there to see exactly what you have or what you are doing.----If you post 6 pictures maybe that will help.
