I have a 1964 Grew Utility Cruiser and a 1965 Mercury 650 65HP that run excellently. My only problem is that it is manual tilt/trim. At ~200 lbs and with old Gas Struts, it is a real pain to raise the motor from inside the boat. To change the Tilt in order to run into shore requires two people and stopping the boat.

Is it possible to fit Power tilt from newer models? I don't want a Jackplate/tilt unit as it would ruin the "Classic" lines and look.

Ideas?

Re: Power Tilt available for 1965 650?

dinsdale-- you can add the older two ram system which takes the place of the shock rams you now have. Basically system consists of two rams, brackets that rams attach to hoses and a pump/valve body, switch harness and switchs, and selenoids. I added this to my 67 650. I spent approximately 200.00 by watching ebay and being patient. Pump determines which hoses (how many) you will need . I had my hoses made at a hydraulic shop for about what one would cost me new from the dealer. Only bad part is you will have to find the rams and brakets as they are no longer available from the manufacture. Pumps can be gotten new or used. The pump and valve body will go inside the boat so make sure you have room for it about 1 foot square and near an opening for ease of service. Ram reseal kits are still available from Mercury. I made my own harness and used monentary toggle switchs as I wanted the trim to be close to the shifter/throttle and tilt out of the way. I also rebuilt and resealed the trim limiter so it will not over trim under power. If you can find a old 115 or better you can get most of everything you need.
