Power tilt trim sticking

I have a '99 Yamaha F50TLRX. When I first took it out of storage this spring I trimmed the motor all the way up to move it, but it would not trim down. It would only click under the cowling. I used the manual release to lower it and did it again with the same results. I talked with a friend and was told to try tapping on trim motor housing with a hammer to free it up. This worked initially although it was sluggish. It will now get stuck at least once or twice each time I take the boat out going up or down. It will work again with some tapping. Could this be a fluid issue or is it just going bad. I tried to take the big flathead screw out to check the fluid and it wouldn't budge, almost messed up the screw. I feel like I may break something if I go any further with that. Just wondering if I should keep going down that road.

Thanks,
HH

Re: Power tilt trim sticking

If tapping on it helps, it means that something is wrong with the motor.
The magnets are glued into the housing and come loose from time to time.
You could have rust jamming the armature and magnets or there could be a problem with the brushes making contact.
Any way you look at it you need to pull the T&T motor and see what you find.
