I have a 1968 160 mercruiser and just replaced the trim hoses is this system self bleeding or do I need to bleed it. If I need to bleed it could someone tell me the procedure.
drotti; when i changed the hoses on my '"73" 165 i started to bleed them by cracking the hose open at the cylinder. i did get a little air out of the first one but by the time i was done with that one the leg was going up and down and work well
just make sure you add oil to make up what you lost changing lines
for what its worth i sucked the oil out of the reservoir and put in new as it seemed a good time to change any way.
Unless you drained the trim cylinders there is no need to do any bleeding. It will bleed itself as the fluid passes through the reservoir.Just run up and down a few times.
