Hey guys

I already posted this in the Johnnyrude forum, however sometimes it takes a little long to get a response from them... I bought a tilt unit for $85 for my current '71 125 rude, the problem is the bracket does not fit between the leg and the swivel bracket. But, in my quest for a non selectric motor, I came across a '74 115 that is basically being given away! My question is will this tilt unit fit the 115? I checked BRP and it doesnt show it as a option for the 115, but it does on the 135. Ive posted a pic for the tilt unit for better reference. I should mention that I did search online and I did see a 2 other motors stated as '74 115's with the same tilt setup, but I dont trust that they were the correct year. Any help would be awesome!

Re: Power tilt

That's a pre-'78 unit and should work. I know the 3 cylinder motors had a different mounting plate than the V4s so hopefully you got the right one. If that thing works, it was a heck of a score for $85. I always wanted one for my '73 Johnson but the damn units always went for closer to $400 on ebay!

Puget, not to sure what you mean by " wheres the rest of it " ? All of the same kits Ive looked at on ebay have no more parts than what I have?

EZ, I was a little concerned as well once I found out there was a kit for the 3 cyl models as well. But from what I can tell the smaller ones have a curved piece that connects the two pistons, rather then the straight piece like mine.

Never the less Im going to bring the kit with me when I look at this other motor on Saturday. The good thing is that the motor is off the boat so it should be a lot easier to have a look at the fitment. I was told by the owners son that this motor has very little hours and was garage kept since '74 when purchased new. We will see!

From the sounds of it I could make a few bucks off it if all doesnt work out!

Sorry I gues the motors I have had were all in the v4 size so different breed of a cat. good luck you are all right they dont give those things away. I have found from time to time our local dealer gets lots of trade in's and just stacks them up for scrap. never strips an engine of older parts. Might find what you need at a marina repair shop.

Re: Power tilt

My understanding is they made two different mounting brackets, one for the bigger motors and one for the smaller ones. I thought the break was about 50 to 60HP - 85hp and up had the same mount, but I could be wrong. I have one for a 74 135hp pic below

Buy it, yours is a prestolite motor, If it doens't work you can get $300 + for it even after all the ebay fee's.
