Power trim and tilt fluid?

How should I fill this up with the motor down or all the way up? Thanks.......

My shop manual for the Volvo SX says for it to be trimmed all the way up, otherwise fluid will spray everywhere.

It depends on the motor, trim unit and age.<br />My 1995 Force 70hp is filled in the DOWN position, using 30wt motor oil.<br /><br />Dad's Merc is filled in the UP position, with ATF.

OMC's are filled in the UP position and cycled at least 5 times to get rid of air, refilling as necessary. With PT&T fluid or Dexron 2 ATF.
