Hi, I have a 1989 Yamaha 2 stroke 3 cyl 50hp motor with Power Trim and Tilt.

I think the PTT motor is near end of life. When I press the button to raise or lower I just get a clicking , I have checked input voltage and thats good.

When I tap the motor with a small hammer the motor starts working and is OK
for a while.

Anyone any ideas and if it needs anew unit where is the best place to buy please.

Thanks

John

Re: Power trim and tilt motor

Clicking sound means the solenoid is hitting, but some times they do not make good connection internally. You can check that by jumping around the solenoid.
But if it works after taping motor then it could be brushes, armature, or the bushings in the motor itself. Maybe you can have it tested by a starter repair shop if you pull it off and take it in, but I have no idea what it would cost.
The motors are sold at all parts places and you can find after market motors also online.
