I have a 2001 Mercury (Tracker) 50hp. The power trim lifts the motor fine, but when I hit the throttle it drops the motor. Also, when the motor is trimed up I can push it down with my hand. There are no visible fluid leaks. A local service center quoted me $1000 to replace the entire pump. It seems to me thy are just taking the easy route. Are there internal pump parts that can be relaced, without the entire pump? They quote $750 for pump alone.

I appologise if this topic has been previously covered, but I tried searching all of the forums.

It doesn’t sound like you have a pump problem at all. The pump pressurizes the cylinder, after that it is up to the seals and check values to hold the pressure. Have you checked the manual relief screw?

Order a manual from Merc direct, to match your engine by serial number. The manual I have may not match your serail number, but if it does, when you get your manual look at page 5C-2 power trim components, item 3. These are the pilot check valves. You can get to one of the valve, by blocking engine in full tilt, then remove the valve and check the seal on the end of the needle. Check the manual release valve first.

I think your memory piston is not working correctly. This is replaceable.

TMD
