Greetings,
I have a Merc I/O 181 ci 4 cylinder. I have a conflict on which type of fluid I should use in the power trim unit. My Seloc manual refers to both 10W40 and transmission fliud. Which is best? If it is AFT do I use Dexton or Type F?
Thanks in advance.
Marty

Well, that engine was used from 1968 and is still in use today. There have also been several different types of pumps used.
Suppose you could give us the year of your setup?

10W30 or 10W40 motor oil.

Yes you have a Gen II. All Alpha drives after 1991 were Gen II. Here is a link to the Online Mercruiser service manual for your outdrive. You may find it handy.

http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Servmanl/14/14cover.pdf
