Afternoon Everyone. Last night I'm out on the water and my trim gauge went squirrely. Up and down all over the place and them nothing. The button on the throttle works but not the gauge. I have looked at the fuses and that's not the problem. The out drive will still come up and go back down when you trim using the button on the throttle. Any ideas?

Sounds like the send unit is bad, mine is doing the same thing right now. Just be careful, if the trim limit switch is bad as well you can trim too high and cause problems. Just pay attention to the rpm and listen to the motor for over rev. I do recommend getting it fixed but it is a process, have to remove the outdrive, gimbal and such to replace it. UNLESS you go with an aftermarket through transom gadget. They look clean but I hesitate to drill holes anywhere on my boat.

The guy who I bought my boat from and cut the wires and spliced the new ones into the old wiring which has been working up until now. I may try that route again.

As jay mentioned your gauge sender went bad, its on the starboard side of the gimbal ring. Your limit switch is on the port side of the ring. Many don't even mess with the gauge because in most cases its not accurate. To replace you pull the drive and remove pins off the bell housing so you can get to the bolt which holds them in place.
