Power Trim Has No Power

Please help,

I have a 2008 Volvo 5.0 GXi with sx outdrive. Power trim has run fine all summer then yesterday during pre launch walk through I noticed the trim would not respond at the throttle switch or secondary above swim platform. Have checked 40/50 fuse and 10 fuse in main compartment. Although the manual mentions a 5 amp in or around the throttle there is not one. I believe the switch may have been stuck in the raise position and either kicked a fuse or BURNED up???

After looking through many posts I have looked, to no avail, for a circuit reset (red button) and/or possible in line fuses. Any advise would be appreciated before I attempt to remove motor in the lower or take it to the DR.

I am handy, but not an expert.

Thanks
Camo

Did check relays and they tested good. The only response I get when the trim button is pressed is the corresponding relay click.

Please check your trim fluid. You may be out. That model had an externally mounted trim/tilt pump. There was a little white plug where the fluid would leak out. Once that happens you have to replace the trim pump cover with the newly designed one that removed the white plug. Hope this helps.

Attached should be a pic of the cover. Looks like this might be a newer one with black screw in plug on the left. trim cover.jpgtrim cover.jpg

You have the older one. Do you see any evidence that fluid has been leaking from the area on the right? To check the fluid, you need to remove the plug.

It does not look to be leaking. How full should it be? When I removed the cap I heard the seal release and looking in there is not a visible level, it bends like a p trap so can?t really tell how full but had fluid near the curve. Thanks

Replace the 2 relays on the side of the pump. Pretty much any 12 V 30 - 40 amp 5 pin relay you can pick up at an automotive store will do.

This is picture of what the redesigned cover looks like. The drive needs to be down when the fluid is checked. The oil needs to be at the top of the cap hole. If there was a leak, you mentioned that the switch may have been stuck on and this could have pumped out all of the fluid that was left in there. The pump is on the exterior so the relays are in the fuse box on the engine. For a 5.0 GXi-J this is position A and B in the diagram that I have. Position F8 has the 40 amp circuit breaker for the trim pump and F2 has a 10 amp fuse for the trim control.
