I have a 1986 Mercury 35 hp outboard with power tilt. Recently I have had to replace one of the hoses due to pretty bad leak in it. The replacement of the hose has been pretty easy except for one of the connections (the outboard side, not the pump side). I can't seem to get it not to leak out of the threads when the unit is almost fully extended in the up position. My question, is there a sealent or something to apply to the threads of the hose to get it to seat/seal properly, or is it a matter of torque (Is a torque wrench required?)?. It is a very small amount of fluid that leaks but I would like to stop it completely (especially as it is on the outside of the hull). Any suggestions?
