i removed the motor for the power trim, the brushes looked fine, the motor looked fine,no loose or broken parts visible,i put it back on,tightened it up,added oil to the reserve...

the motor works fine after i give it a whack with a hammer, its been workin fine now in the driveway, previously it just stopped workin altogether, then if i hit the motor with a blunt object,it would work, then it would struggle, then it would stop workin altogether until i hit it again, now it seems to be workin fine again...

QUESTION? i just replaced the cranking battery in the boat,it is a smaller battery with alot less cranking amps, could this possibly have anything to do with the power trim motor not working properly? maybe its not getting enough power to operate it fully? why would the motor work after being struck with an object?

thanx,
mike

better ck switches, voltage doesn't mean squat if you can't get the amperage the motor needs to work.
take a look at the wiring also to see if you have any corrosion at any point or at connections.

i've seen more motors replaced because of faulty connections or wiring than i can count.

if everything ck's ok you might want to have the motor windings ck'd.

a good eletrical shop should be able to ck the motor properly.

as for the battery, lower cranking amps is a big no-no. get the proper battery or one with higher cranking amps than required. your starter will thank you.

that was my next move,to check all the wires and harnesses...
from what ive seen thus far, they all appeared to be in good shape,i will inspect them closer as soon as i get free time to do it,
mike
