Hi folks. Last summer the power trim starting working intermittently. Eventually it stopped working at all. It’s a 2010 Stingray 180RX with a lightly used Penta 3.0GL. I’ve never seen a trim motor go. I can’t believe that it has and apparently they are over 1K. My brother in law says the relay switches seemed fine. In a few weeks I’m opening the boat and would like to test the relay switches myself as they are the most probable cause. How do I do this? What else could it be other than that or the trim motor? Thanks folks

Trim motor has 2 wires. When connected across the 12V Bat it runs one direction and when leads are swapped on the Bat it runs the other way.

The drawing below is how its wired.
Note: Blue, like the sky is up, and Green like the grass is down

Thank you. I’m no mechanic so bear with me. This shows me wiring diagram. This is what I would use to test the relay?

You need a wiring diagram to be able to see how its wired. To test you need a voltmeter and maybe a jumper wire to bypass a relay if needed.

If unable to understand the wiring, then need to find someone who does for help.

Red is 12V hot
When red connects to small blue going to up relay, it turns on and motor should run. Same thing happens when red connects to green

Thank you. I’ll buy some test lead wires and take my time to follow the diagram. Much appreciated!
