My power trim started working slowly today while fishing. When I got the boat on the trailer I was trimming down to secure the motor in the motor toter and it was barely moving then completely stopped. Once I got home i pushed the up button and it started to move. What do I need to check

Lukelona, It's a 1994 Mercury 150 xri outboard. I just went outside and let it up and took the motor toter off and trimmed it all the way down. It is very slow and jumps bad until it is about half the way down

Well, grease the motor tilt rod to allow it to move smoothly. Now check the electrical connections to see that it gets full voltage and amperage. That should be a two wire motor. Jumpering +12VDC to the blue wire and -12VDC to the green wire on the motor will trim it up. Switching the connections will cause it to trim down.

To replace the trim motor, it is easiest to remove the PTT unit from the motor. There are a 4 allen screws that hold the PTT motor to the PTT unit. Of course, 2 of those are in the back, against the transom.
