Looking to replace either power trim motor or try to locate entire assembly depending on whether motor comes out without impossible corrosion issues.Worst case senario how bad of a job is it ?Where can I find power trim assembly?Approximate cost?Specific possible obstacles?Looking for general advice and headaches my mechanic didnt want to do the job because of age and condition issues. What specific repacement motor can I look for possibly substituting for a costly yamaha replacement.Thank you

Engine will have to be removed from the boat so if you do not have a way to safely do that, don't attempt. The trim motor can be changed without removing the whole unit but if you have to remove it, you will probably break off the side bolts.

Based on the possibility of side bolts breaking off how large of a task is it to drill out without damaging engine bracket. If you have done this before what is the percent possibility of trim motor bolts breaking? My trim still works, barely, I just trying to way out whether it is worth risking getting involved with this project.Any hints for success or possible issues I should be aware of?Thankyou for any advice-Andy

Difficult. What usually happens is the bolts are seized in the transom bracket and the head of the bolt will shear off leaving the shank still stuck in the hole. Drilling out the bolt is long and tiring. Keeping it centered is also difficult. Plus, the engine will have to be off the boat and drilling a swinging engine is a challenge. It can be done but you will learn new profanity.

As far as heating bolts or area around bolts what would be the proper procedure. what area should be heated? how long? type of torch?Any helpful hints or advice is appreciated.Should I attempt to loosen side bolts first, while engine is on transom for stability reasons in case I break them.Thankyou Andy

You aren't going to apply heat to anything while its attached to fiberglass. If you aren't experienced in heating alum then I wouldn't reccommend it. There's a fine line between hot enough and where did that puddle on the floor come from?
