I have a 1984 18' Rinker with a Mercruiser 185 i/o V6. It has a single lever throttle that has 3 switches built in including: throttle (square button), trailer (square button for raising the engine), and up/down (lever style for power trim). I need the trailer and up/down switches. Any ideas on where to get them? Thanks!

Hi IndyGuy,

Welcome to iBoats.

Have you tried a Mercruiser dealer? Because of the number of different controls around at that time (1984) I can't help you with a part number. A Merc dealer will have pictures and once the particular control is identified getting a part number for the switches is easy.

Chris.............

Re: Power Trim Switch

I have a 1999 23'Rinker . It has the throttle with the square trailer button and trim up/down (lever switch). The trim up switch does not work but the down does. Also, the trailer button does work to raise the outdrive. How do I disassemble the handle to replace the trim switch?

Re: Power Trim Switch

Are you guys sure that the switches are the problem? Often, the solenoids go bad... easily replacable and relatively inexpensive. My $0.02 only.

Re: Power Trim Switch

99Captiva, The trim up switch is in series with the trim limit switch located on the pivot of the outdrive. Because these switches are underwater, and are not waterproof, they tend to corrode and don't work. It is therefore likely that your trim up switch isn't a problem.
If you have a wiring diagram, you should be able to find the wires that run to the trim limit switch. A lot of folks symply bypass the trim limit switch, after it breaks.

Re: Power Trim Switch

Chris, I have recently picked up this boat and really do not know to much about it. Are you familiar with the Rinker Captiva 232. 5.7 Mercruiser with Bravo 3 outdrive. It has a Quicksilver 3000 throttle with trailer up button and a separate trim up down button in the handle as well. The trailer up button works and pushing the down button on the trim works. The up direction is where the issue is. Thanks again for the feedback. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

99 - I am not familar with the Bravo Drive, but it is likely the Control and trim limit switch is similar to the Alpha control and trim limit switch. Your best bet is to get a wiring diagram, and ID the trim limit switch. You can then bypass it (I used a short piece of wire with some bullet connectors) and see if the toggle switch works to trim the motor up.
