Power Trim up doesn't work

I have a 4.3 Mercruiser with power trim. The rocker trim switch works fine in down position but not at all in up position, consequently I have to use the trailering button to raise the outdrive. Switch checks out ok, Where do I look next?<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Alan

Since the trailering button works this tells me you have a problem with your wiring or the trim limit switch itself. Dont know your year model, But if its older than ten years,My bet is the wiring is rotten to the trim limit sendor. Kick the outdrive over to the starboard side and look up into the gimble housing. Look for black lampcord type wire. Is the insolation missing in places? Another thing you can do is to look inside the boat at the transom where these wires come into the boat. Look for the bullet connectors where these wire come in. Unplug these wires and plug them into themselves. Your trim should now work.

Alan, are you sure the trim up isn,t working,try it while under way. You may have to be in forward gear to activate the trim up.

Mercruisers can be trimmed while under way at any speed, while stopped,and for trailering.. why the???

The trim limit switch will limit the amount of up movement - whether moving or not. The trailer switch will take the outdrive all the way up - again, whether moving or not. (Not a good idea to go up all the way while moving of course! )

Trent, That is how my mercruiser works. Trim up will only work while in forward gear. Works fine up/down while under way(within the limit) but must use both up/trailer while in neutral.

I've Never seen a Mercruiser that HAD to be in Forward Gear to trim, Or tilt.........
