My friend has a 1988 75HP mercury. It goes up but want go down. The motor sounds the same up and down. To get it to go down he loosens a screw and fluid leaks out. He said that when it is down the system is under pressure.When it first started, after several attemps it would go down but now it want go down at all without loosen the screw. I have a manual for Johnson but not for Mercury. Would trouble shooting be the same? Is this a job for a shop?

Hi Tsenat,<br /><br />There are 3 different trim/tilt systems used on those engines.<br /><br />1. 3 rams, with the fill tube on the side.<br />2. 3 rams, with the fill tube in the centre (called 'aft fill')<br />3. single ram system.<br /><br />Which one has your friend got?<br /><br />Chris............
