Powerhead rotation clockwise or counterclock

So far this has been a very helpful site many thanks to all. My question is which way should the flywheel turn clocwise or counterclock. I recently had my starter rebuilt and i swear its going wrong direction not positive though. The flywheel is turning counter clockwise and i swear it used to go clockwise any answers again greatly appreciated thanks. 1989 evinrude 200XP

Looking straight down at the flywheel, the proper rotation is clockwise.

Even if the starter were to run backwards---which it probably isn't, it is impossible for the gear to kick up and turn the flywheel backwards. Flywheel turns clockwise, starter turns counter clockwise.
