Yamaha 1996 40hp VETOL powertrim motor found to be dead with the help of knowledge and advise found on this fine site. Thanks to all contributors.

Now unable to open manual release valve-screw although antirustfluid and torgue-drill vibrations used. It´s just not moving anywhere at all.
I´m askin for:

1) suggestions for next steps to get the tiltmotor replaced. Drilling the vent?

2) are there any dangers in opening oildrain & other bolts i.e. is there an active pressure
from tiltshaft when the engine is loosened from it´s mountigbrackets to the boat?

Re: Powertrim manual release valve stuck

if a hand impact wont remove it, be careful some have left hand threads, then your usually stuck with removing the brackets on the port and starboard sides to remove the unit. this will require removal of the engine from the hull and suspending it.

Re: Powertrim manual release valve stuck

Thanks for the advice rodbolt,

seems it has to go to dealer with hoists and other
specialtools - I´ll report how they solved it.

Have seen many ask for Yamaha workshopmanuals. Found www.yamahapub.com (makes US-deliveries only) They publish outboard etc servicemanuals for USD 60. I have no opinion on usability of the material.

Jomce with first-snow regards from Finland
