Ran across a 1960s searay 18' srv on its way to the dump. No hull ID #. No title. MY guess is mid to late 60's. Boat had a merc 165 inline 6 (chevy 250) and outdrive. After a little coaxing,($) and checking the outdrive gearcase for water etc, I took a cordless sawsall and quickly CUT the motor and outdrive out of the boat.

I have searched for an application chart to identify the outdrive by the motor size. All links appear to have been deleted from this site. I know that service manual 1 would be appropriate, but I have no intention of rebuilding or keeping this new "yard ornament." (wife is "happy") I'm certain there are many good parts that someone can use, and its my understanding that some are hard to come by.

Can anyone identify the outdrive by model number for me. I have looked for numbers on it and don't see any that are legible. Any other info that would help me part this out would be appreciated.

Re: Pre-alpha identification

from the drive application chart. the 165 hp L6 was always mated with a mc-1 drive. 1970-1981.

i don't know about the newer ones. but this is a pic of a '75.

the s/n on that one was not ledgeable. the sn is stamped into the upper though, under the sticker. as ya can see, i had to remove paint to see the stamped number. the number wasn't visible under the paint. you coudn't tell the number was even there..
