Pre Alpha Lower Unit, Will it Fit??????

Hi I have a 1990 Mercruiser V6 driving a Alpha one Gen 1 outdrive, now here is my issue, I bought a new Aftermarket (sterndrive inc.) Lower unit off eBay from a ebay shop "boatsunlimited" Based in NY. It cost me $695 plus $200 air express to Brisbane Australia, anyway 7 weeks later Still no Lower unit, the F@#ken ***** won't answer my emails, having problems getting a paypal refund and so on.<br /><br />So here is my Question, From one of my last boats I have a fully rebuilt Pre Alpha outdrive, new gears, bearings seals and so on.... It was fitted to a 140hp 4 cylinder and the upper unit has 1.98 ratio, Will this pre alpha lower unit fit my alpha one upper unit?<br /><br />Thanks Cameron

Anyway, read through this and it will tell you what works for mixing and matching<br /><br /> http://www.mercstuff.com/drive_id.htm <br /><br />It says about a pre-Alpha lower:<br /><br />"This housing will fit an Alpha upper housing but will not fit a Gen II upper"

The drive will fit but the gear ratio is wrong.....JK

Thanks for the link Ralph,<br /><br />J.kopec I was understamding that the ratio in the lower unit of the alpha one, MR, R and 1 were all the same, and that the ratio only changed in the top box. <br /><br />if the lower untio is different, can someone tell me what the ratios are,<br />Mercruiser Alpha one lower unit ratio compared to a Mercruiser R lower unit Ratio.<br /><br />Thanks again

The ratio is changed in the top half.

Missed that, when you said 'Lower unit' I thought you meant the entire 'Leg'.....JK
