 i boat on a budget like most of you and have a problem
a few weekends ago i hit something in the water and damaged my lower unit (86 alpha one)
i have a pre-alpha lower unit sitting collecting dust
i have set the 2 drives next to each other and the only difference i can see is the pin on top of the drive shaft of the pre-alpha and the rounded cavitation plate , splines match on both drive shaft and prop shafts , and measuring both are identical.

will it work? , do i need to remove the pin on top of the drive shaft?
any help would be great.

thanks in advance

Re: pre alpha one

Do NOT take my advice, someone will chime in who's in the know.......
But from what I've read, the Pre-alpha can be directly replaced with an alpha-1. So I would assume you can go both directions.

...and welcome to the board :)
