Pre-alpha outdrive 165 same as 228??

Have to replace the upper unit on my 228 mercruiser and have found a few from 165's, are they interchangeable? Thanks...

No, the 228 is a 1.50:1 the 6cyl 165 is a 1.65:1 ratio Ive heard of/seen people use a 1.65:1 on a v-8 and play with different props but it's not correct to Merc specs

My upper unit locked up on me, is it possible to rebuild these? Thanks
