Pre Alpha Remote Control Upgrade

Hi There

I am looking to upgrade the remote control in a 1977 four winns with a 165 pre alpha. What would it take to install something newer like a commander 3000?
The only thing i really don't want to do is change the lower shift cable again. Due to the trim system and how it prevents the drive from rising i don't think i can change the shift interrupt bracket and keep the stock trim system. So will a newer style remote hook up to the stock cables?

the remote box will be a bolt up using your present control cables. the only time a problem comes up is with the control box that uses the new GEN II cables.The newer cables will not install in a standard cable control box.
