I just bought a new to me 99 Hydrasport 212 CC with a 200 yamaha (becasue Ike took my last) and on my last boat all I had to do was add oil to the oil reserve and pump gas like usual no premixing. My new boat you have to pre-mix, since I have a 85 gallon tank, are there any tricks to doing a pre-mix becaue pre-mixing 85 gallons is going to be a pain in the rear, any tricks or basic ways that I am not aware of, thanks guys love the forum.

I use an oil tube that has all the mixes on it, it goes to 15gal of fuel, so if you wanted to fill her up, you would have to do it several times, but thats just how I do it!

With that large a tank, you can do this "in bulk" so to speak. 50:1 ratio is one pint of oil in six gallons of fuel so one quart would do 12 gallons of fuel and one gallon would do 48 gallons. If you know the tank will take at least any of those multiples it is a simple matter to add the applicable amount of oil and pump the applicable amount of fuel. If the tank is still not full but you know it will take at least six gallons, add a pint and pump. Add another pint and pump. If at the end, you've added a full pint of oil of but were only able to squeeze in 3 gallons of fuel you have nothing to worry about. That little extra oil in 85 gallons will not be noticed. Don't worry about shaking the boat to mix the fuel. By the time you leave the dock it is already mixed.

Siltertip, thanks, I was not sure if you could add the oil directly to the fuel tank nd then pump gas, great info, thanks again!

Re: Pre-Mix Tricks?

The only problem you may run into with a big tank is not having enough room left for the oil after you fill it. When it sounds like its close to full add the correct amount of oil, then slowly fill it and see how much it will hold and then add the rest of the oil it needs. If you're a few oz's off don't worry about it, a few oz's in that much fuel won't make a difference.

After the first couple times you fill it, you should be able to tell when it's close to full, so just stop and add the oil at that point.

Adding it before or after you pump the fuel won't make a big difference, If it's on the trailer the gas will be mixed by the time you're out of the gas station, if you're on the water the boat is moving or rocking all the time. The only problem in adding it before you pump is if you over estimate the amount of fuel it will take and you add too much oil, there's no way to take oil out. It's not a huge problem unless you added far too much oil though.

No -- you add the oil first and sneak up on the mixture. You don't add 50 or 60 gallons of gas and then not have enough room for another gallona and a half of oil. A little too much oil won't hurt anything. Too little oil will.

I never add before unless I know the tank is empty, you can never trust a marine fuel gauge to be even close to correct. My buddy always adds his oil before he fills the tank and is normally so far off it's crazy. I can tell when mine are close to full and still have room for oil though.

Many people with large tanks never fill them completely, so to fill before or after isn?t an issue.

Oil first fuel after.
I use a nice little graduated jug marked out for gallons and litres.

I'm not aware of a 200 HP Yamaha of that vintage that wasn't oil injected. Did someone remove it?

i try to estimate, how much fuel i need, add oil to tank, then put that much fuel in the tank, if it is not full, i then add more oil, on the estimate to finish filling the tank. then add fuel.
