Considering a boat about a hundred miles away. Cheap price.

Would you use the seller?s mechanic for the compression check and other pre-purchase inspections? This isn?t a full survey.

This mechanic has a ten year history with the boat. But, I?m of course a little concerned about bias.

There are other marine mechanics in the area but most of them would take a few more days to fit this boat in.

i drove 550 miles to get my boat. it was in rapid city, sd. i don't know how many dealers or boat techs there are in that city, but i'd guess not to many. so, yes. i used my po dealer for the pre-purchase inspections. mine was a consignment sale too so the boat was already sitting on the lot. only thing i'll say is that while i did use their service, i also personaly watched them do the tests... i know they did them, cause i watched them do it.. that satisifyed me... they had already done the tests i ask too. but that was when i was 550 miles away. having them do it in ft. of me confirmed that indeed they had done the tests as the results were the same.. that poor dealer spent a whole day with me on inspections and sea trials prior to getting my moeny. poor fella (dealer) really had to work hard to get his 5% or whatever his cut was.. i delt personally with the stores owner and his only marine tech... both were great guys..

Can he give you a signed printout, and/or will the seller agree to take the boat back if results are different when your mechanic checks it out.
