Got a boat title says Precision Marine as the manufacture and I can't find them, lot's of the same name but not builders. Just curious where it was built and history of company. See pics in thread about "building gunnels on a roll top boat" 1550 Bandit.

Starting in '72, boats have a HIN. The title should also have the HIN and the first three letters indicate the manufacturer. Boat builders use a lot of different names for brand names.

That's where I got precision Marine (from the first three letters) when I looked for the company I didn't find any. Just thought someone may have heard of or had a boat by them.

How did you match the first three letters with PM? PQO, PSQ or PVJ?

You aren't finding much because the MIC code PME was reassigned in 1985, and the previous MIC code PME builder, Precision Marine, went bankrupt in 1976:

I found 1 Kansas City Star newspaper listing from June 1972, for Precision Marine boats in Independence, MO [h=3]The Kansas City Star from Kansas City, Missouri ? Page 132[/h]
You can start there, w/ the address, phone maybe, and it's location in Independence to try and run down more info.

They don't appear in the 1968 Boat Manufacturer's Association roster:

LOTS of small boat builders left little info behind when they went bankrupt or moved to a new location. Unless someone took the initiative to save it back then, and at some point someone deemed it important enough to catalog then upload to the net, there just isn't going to be info to be found online.

I know of at least 1 large boat builder, still in business today, that just dumped filing cabinet after filing cabinet full of info, serial number/production records and sales literature/brochures when they moved to a new facility. Numerous companies lost records to fires or poor record keeping.

To the best of my knowledge Alumacraft is the only currently in production company that has LOTS of old records, AND is willing to share that info w// anyone who sends them a boat serial#/HIN. Wish more were as diligent at keeping the records and half as helpful when you contact them.

Good luck on the search for info

Thanks for the info, I never would have thought Kansas, Dorothy, I was brushing up on my boolean characters, now I see I don't need em' just ask you guys!
I recently had a conversation with a friend who was once a dealer for Manatee boats as I have one I bought for the motor and trailer, he say's hang on a minute , rustles around and comes out with an original sale flier for the very boat I have, turns out his Dad sold it in 73. Here she is with her crew...

Hello, I'm still working on transom removal, down to half way and waiting for weather so I can get outside and fire up the stihl saw for some clearance work. I pulled about four feet of deck out after cutting the perimeter I pulled about hard enough to lift a sack of feed and the deck piece popped right up so that was good for me except now I know it will all have to all come out. I am wondering if anyone has a suggestion as to reinforcement on stringers, I want to cut through two of them and install a pvc tube for teleflex steering. I need to go through one stringer that is about 6" tall and then the other next to hull side( about 3" inboard of the hull ) is only 3 1/2" tall. I am trying to use a smaller size pvc so I can minimize impact of this penetration but it has to be an acute angle so the hole gets large in length. I am thinking maybe an aluminum gusset on either side of the smaller stringer with epoxy and glass.I have seen some composite material for signage that has an aluminim sheet with a honeycombed interior and then aluminum sheet outside, I don't know if the honeycomb will add any apreciable strength on edge load or if it is only for compresive strength, but it is amazingly strong stuff for no more thickness than it's aprox. 3/16" may be that alum. is all I need??? It's really cold here and I have time to think about planning ahead so any suggestions would be helpful. I will run a separate tube for electrical, so I am thinking I might get away with 1 1/4" pvc for steering tube, my friend is saving a bad steering cable for me so I can lay it out and see what bend angle and size I can get away with, this boat no doubt was never built for a cable steering system, tiller was the way, back then.
I was reading Woodonglass Lone Starr build and I have to say it was really quite a saga, man you had a time... I was happy everyone was alright in the end, but man... I was glad you owned up on the trailer deal as it showed you are of quality character, you could have easily just said a story and no one would have known the difference. Myself and anyone that has nerve to do builds or projects or anything that is hands on will screw up ( and I can tell you I have done plenty of that several beers worth to tell half) but if we own our screw ups then we can also own our successes. Grind-on, joy lies just beneath the surface.
