Are Mercury Premium Plus and Quicksilver the same oil? I usually buy the premium plus from my local dealer, good excuse to visit. I noticed that the quicksiver is rated for air cooled engines also, and the premium plus does not mention this on the bottle.

Re: Premium Plus vs Quicksilver

My quick take.

oil, is oil, is oil, the base stock that is in a standard TC-W3 oil, (Quicksilver). Its the additives, or lack thereof that makes them all different. I do not like the idea of one oil serves all purposes, as there has to be something in there that isnt necesarily good for an outboard if its good for an aircooled engine. More of a "low ash" than an "ashless". Probably will not show up in your lifetime, but I still dont like it. Plenty of engines running around, and have been for years on Quicksilver oil. I sure would decarb every year though.

I believe the Merc Premium Plus is a blend of regular oil and a group III synthetic, I have no problems with this oil at all.
