Just inherited a 12 foot jonboat and a '55 cd-12 5.5hp Johnson Seahorse, but no fuel tank. I have the owners repair manual and upon review it has a pressure tank that is not available according to all of the shops I have contacted. Am told they stopped producting in '80. Does anyone know if these are indeed not available or if possibly there is a dealer that has vintage parts ? I appreciate your input. I would like to see my grandfathers fishing rig back on the water.

you have a choice of either finding a used pressure tank, or converting the engine to use a conventional tank. Retrofitting a fuel pump would be required...

Hello.
Go to "johnson outboard" on e-bay.Right now there is at least one pressure tank being auctioned off.Over the past few weeks there have been 5 or 6.
For spare parts:
www.twincityoutboards.com
www.americanoutboard.com
The people there will either help you out or tell you where to get help.
It might be a good idea to get a full repair manual from Seloc or Clymer. They come in very handy with these old babies.
If any outboard shop tells you there are no parts available for your engine it is possibly because they don't know your engine. There are plenty of old timer mechanics around who do know your engine.
Good luck.

I have a 35hp with beautiful pressure tank. Iunderstand that these tanks sell for about 80.00. Don't hold me to that figure. If you get a little bigger boat I'll sell you mine (with engine of course) for 350.00

I apprectiate everyone's replies to the pressure fuel tank issure for the '55 5.5 Johnson.

Schematic: What is the process of converting one over to convetional ? Is it safe and economical ? My worry with staying with the pressurized tank is safety as well as finding a new tank once the one I secure wears out. I'll keep the rebuild tank in mind.

Rolmops: Going to check out e bay. Thanks. I will bookmark the sites as well you recommended.

Fireman 757: I'll keep the offer in mind on the 35hp with tank. Am thinking about a 14-16ft. skiff with an outboard eventually for some boat camping.
