If have a 1955 Evinrude 15hp that is nice cond, should I do a fuel pump conversion or should I look for a pressure tank in good cond. Cost being about the same give or take. Any opinions?

Re: Pressure tank or fuel pump conversion

Personally, I like old, original, outboard motors. Having said that, I would suggest a conversion. Pressurized fuel tanks make me nervous and they changed them for a reason. ( I have a chance to buy a "nearly new" '55 15hp right now for 250, do you think it's a fair price?)

I've used pressure tank motors for 50+ years and have never had a problem, other than having to clean out some rust or replace a few seals/gaskets. If you get a good rust-free tank, you shouldn't have any problems. And it's one less part (fuel pump) to malfunction.

I use pressure tanks regularly and have about a dozen of them. Never had an issue. I have many engines I run that use the pressure tank and to convert em all would be expensive. I'm totally happy using pressure tanks.

Boils down to personal preference...just like, should I date the brunette or the blonde?
