Pressure test outdrive while on boat?

I've already pulled and installed the outdrive once, and now I've pulled and re-attached the lower unit for an impeller change.
So, everything is mounted to the boat.

Can I pressure test a '96 alpha one gen2 while mounted to the boat? Could I just hook a tire inflator and a gauge up to the tube that goes to the monitor tank?

Also, I don't currently have supplies for doing a pressure test... how important is a pressure test after replacing an impeller?

I built a pressure tester way back when because I had a leaky drive. If I were to split the cases I would probably pressure test when finished just for peace of mind. However, if you don’t suspect you have a leak, no real need to do that. Certainly not for an impeller job. If you see a leak moving forward, then build up the stuff you need and go to it.

When you do the test, remove the drive and drain it. I would probably not test through the monitor tube.
