Re: Pressure Testing Gear box

find a fittin that fits your unit then add at fitting with a gauge on top of the t and a air valve at the end or you can skip the gauge if you just pump the air in and check pres with a needle gauge then wait about an hour or two and check it again.

Re: Pressure Testing Gear box

Procedure:
1. drain LU of gear oil
2. install adapter (I made one with a Schrader valve and a gauge connection (and gauge 0-20 or 30 psig) and adapter to drain/vent connection
3. on my motor, pressurize w/ air to < 15 psig
4. observe at 15 minute intervals ... should still have pressure at 45 minutes
5. done

If significant leakage, test under water to see where leaks are. You need to have a shop manual for your motor, since mfgr may have slightly different recommendations. Also, if possible, a vacuum test is also recommended. Same deal except max vacuum is 15 in. Hg vac.

You obviously need an air compressor and vacuum pump to do the above tests.

Re: Pressure Testing Gear box

Thanks,
I have a manual, which reccomends I pressure test it, however I was worried about running gear oil through a tester.

Sounds like an inexpensive one can be built from basic parts... thanks guys
