Pressure testing outdrive

Don and a few others have mentioned pressure testing the outdrive to determine source of leaks.

My question:
I am looking for a diagram and what parts are needed to make such a device or do they sell them?

Also I am assuming that you would screw them into the oil vent or oil drain??

Thanks

And he means a bicycle pump, do NOT use a compressor or you will damage every seal..

Or you can buy one on Ebay for a reasonable price that does pressure and vacuum....

Re: Pressure testing outdrive

One can be made that works good with an air compressor using the following parts. Just be sure to watch the gauge when appling the air pressure using the regulator. Do not exceed the presssure called for in the shop manual when testing.

1) Air Regulator Valve 1/4x1/8 NPT
2) 0-60 psi Gauge with 1/8? NPT Male Fitting
3) 1/4? NPT to 1/4? Barb Fitting
4) 1/4? Ball Valve,
5) 1/8 NPT Plug
6) One Foot 1/4? Vinyl Hose
7) Compressor Quick Release Male Fitting
8) Fitting as required to suit part tested

Re: Pressure testing outdrive

Heres a pic of mine. Drilled out a screw in my lathe, brazed on an air fitting...screws into the dipstick hole on my VP 280.
Shoved 10 pounds in...found out the oil fill gasket was toast. New, held 10 for an hour, soaped all...found nothing else

Here is mine all put together. I use it for pressure testing of fuel systems and carb pop-off pressure. It can be used for testing any sealed systems for leaks.

You might look at "MightyVac".I bought one years ago,and the manual had an order form to buy an adapter to also let it do pressure.

No idea on the cost, but for those without time to fabricate one,it's a decent unit.Because of it's small size,it takes awhile to 'fill'a large area, but for once in awhile it works fine.

Also great for bleeding brakes by yourself.
