I have read all the posts regarding how to build your own tester. Last year I tested my outdrive with my air compressor. I set the regulator at just over 10 psi and left it connected to the outdrive. I watched the air tank pressure needle to see if it dropped any. It did not drop at all. Would this be the same as testing it with a bike pump?

Re: Pressure Testing Outdrive

Oh i forgot to ask also. Can you test the upper and lower seperate? When I blow air into the upper through the vent hole and plug the oil passage, I can hear air coming out of the splined area where the drive shaft from the lower fits into. Doesnt this shaft need to be in( upper and lower together) to hold air in the upper.

MAYBE....What the heck are you working on??? Mercs have a oil transfer hole and a gen II needs to be assembled. Also don't forget to vacuume test because some seals keep water out and need suction test and seals that keep oil in need pressure test.
