How accurate are they in general?

And can the hose be cleaned thouroughly without taking off the lower unit... (high pressure air blown through line going to lower unit)? Will that do the job?

Not super accurate, but the tube can easily be cleaned with compressed air. They are good for a reference speed, but don't count on it to be dead on. A GPS (Even a cheap one) is a much better investment. They ARE dead on! Although, the one on my fishfinder with the paddlewheel pickup matches my GPS perfectly.

My water pressure speedo is real close to the gps speed until it gets into the upper 10% of the scale.

c/6
Hooty

Thanks everyone,

I got ahold of a hand held GPS unit from a friend, just for the hell of it.... I'll do the cleaning on the boat line and take it out and compare (carefully).... I'll let you know what I find out....
