I'm in the market for a pressure washer for home use. I would like one to hose off the boat, garden equipment etc...

What size should I get, and what brand has the least problems?

I'm on well water, and I get roughly 15 gpm.

I'm looking at a 2350 psi Troy built for $299 at a local home store.

Ideas?

H.

Homerr,

Look for a so called "remanufactured" one. Pressure washers are the most returned piece of equipment that home stores sell.

Why, people buy them and use them and can see no reason for owning one. So, they fake a malody with the units and return them.

Re: Pressure washers...Recomendations?

Just a heads up, but I won't have one.
A friend does pressure washing for a living and he doesn't own a small home model. He says he wouldn't wash anything with it at home.
The reason is simple. He's seen so much damage done because of the pressure head and high pressure spray to last a lifetime. Concrete cleaned looses the 'fines' that cover the top and this introduces quicker bacteria growth so the need to do it sooner next time round.
Vehicles, don't, just don't. The paint and other parts are not made to take pressure at all.
The house, again the cleaner takes a fine layer off the material on the outside. Even turned down low most cleaners will at some time take a small percentage of the material off the dwelling.
Wooden decks, the worst of all - again the pressure makes the timber grain stand out thus making a great home for the next lot of bacteria to grow thus the green stuff comes back faster and thicker.
Ross

If you truly have 15 gallons per minute coming out your well, just point it at whatever, lol. I have 3 gallons per minute at my house, I can't imagine 5 times that pressure from a garden hose...

I have had a few pressure washers, returned a few as well. I am on my third Craftsmen, the first 2 lasted 10 minutes...Giving last chance to Sears...

Thanks for all the input guys...

Yes, I'm well aware of the pressure! It can be just as bad as it is good. I've done a bit of blasting myself with the hot and cold models.
They done an excellent job cleaning the years of crud off my house before I painted it.

I live out in the country, and I hate to run clear into a nice car washing facility just to blast off my mower or whatever...

And I still have to eventually blast the bottom of my project boat for new paint.

It would be fun to see the look on the attendants face at the car wash if I pulled the 26 footer down there!

I'm going to look into the remans...I can always get that Troy Built if I can't get a reman at a decent price.

H.

Water flow is at least as important as pressure. Look for a unit with 2500 psi and at least 3 gpm flow rate. A buddy bought one at Lowe's with about these specs....5 hp. Honda absolutely refuses to die. Good little unit for around $300...I think it may have been a reman.
