I have a 2 line tank that when I push the button gas comes out around the button instead of out the connector. Any idea where the problem lies?

Re: pressurized 2 line gas tank problem

Sure. Gas is going through the diaphragm (it shouldn't). There are a few possibilities why. It depends partly on whether it has a plastic button or a metal button. Plastic or metal, the diaphragm could have a hole through it. In addition, the metal ones have several additional possibilities:
1. There is a nut on the bottom end of the push button stem. It could be loose.
2. There are two metal supports at the bottom end. They may be distorted or rusted
3. The bottom end of the push button stem may be corroded.
4. The metal button is supposed to spin freely on the stem. If it is corroded and stuck to the stem, you tend to rotate it while pushing it, which unscrews the nut on the bottom. See #1

In any case, you have to take it apart and fix it. Parts are available.

There were two kinds of diaphragms used with a plastic push button. Older kind had metal supports riveted to the diaphragm, newer kind had a different lower support (not riveted) and a different push button. Here it is:

Re: pressurized 2 line gas tank problem

Supreme Mariner: I rebuilt it last winter. When I started I noticed the diaphram did not have the support u r talking about it looked the same except for that. Anyway now when I wanted to try it the hose connector was screwed up. Got that fixed put gas in the tank pushed the button 5 times and here I am. So I haven't looked yet but I'm willing to bet the button poked a hole in it. I didn't know there was 2 different plastic buttons. The place only asked if it was plastic or metal button. Do u think this is what happened? Could the button poke a hole in only 5 pushes. I do understand a wrong part is a wrong part. MY FAULT. I will keep u posted on what I find when I open the can of worms again lol Thanks again, riverrat 2

Well sure, the supports are necessary, whether they are the riveted kind or otherwise. The modified button design makes the button the upper support where used.
