Three and Four Cylinder Engines Using Separate Switch Boxes and Ignition Coils (Continued)
NO FIRE OR INTERMITTENT ON ONE CYLINDER:
  1. Check stator and trigger resistance, trigger wire sets read approximately 50 ohms between the wire sets (DVA-4V or more), stator reads 680-800 ohms (factory) and 200- 300 (CDI/RAPAIR) DVA 180V or more from blue to yellow.
  2. If readings are good, disconnect kill wire from one pack. If the dead cylinder starts firing, the problem is likely the blocking diode in the other pack.

This may be a dumb question, but why the other pack?

have you tried to swap the two packs to see what happens? I had a similar issue and luckily I had a spare pack and swapped-problem gone.

Continued from what?

Probably using two twin cylinder power packs. Are they same and interchangeable?

Time to ask the designer or bean counter.

Just to clarify...I don't have that problem, It's my curiosity that wants to know;

why faulty diodes in #1 pack (that fires cylinder #1 + #2 ) would cause Cylinder #3 or #4 not fire properly

or am I misunderstanding this??

One pack shouldn't cause a problem with the other pack.

Good morning Jerry,

It did not make sense to me either, but when it comes to electronics??
I guess....it could somehow "back feed" through the wires they share??
