Hey guys quick question for you, should the primary winding cable on my coil on a Johnson '68 40hp be grounded? I'm testing with my light tester and lighting up showing that it grounded even with all wires disconnected from points and spark plug unscrewed?

Not sure I understand the question. But no, the coil windings should not be grounded if everything is disconnected But obviously, both windings are grounded if the ground wire is connected under the mounting screw as it should be.

To clarify, there are two wire leads coming from the coil. One is grounded under the mounting screw, and other goes to points.

Good news got it fixed, was not getting any spark, then noticed the coil was lightly hanging over its edge mark, scooted it back and now I have spark.

Well that is good news. The ground you were reading probably came from the secondary winding that goes to the spark plug. That is how it makes a complete circuit. But good you now have it fixed. :thumb:
