Sometimes the primer bulb becomes firm and sometimes the same bulb becomes completely hard/solid. Does anyone know why this happens? I would think it would be consistent, but it seems to be hard one time, and it only gets firm another time - you know what I mean and let's keep it out of the gutter hey fellas ... lol

Re: Primer Bulb General Question

When you first pump the bulb it fills the bowl in the lower carb, the float comes up and the needle at the float hinge goes up into the jet orifice and shuts off incoming fuel from the bulb. At that point the bulb is firm.:p

Once the engine starts to use fuel the fuel pomp draws fuel through the bulb and it becomes merely a flow through device, it will feel full but soft.

Re: Primer Bulb General Question

I assume you mean when pumping it to prime the carb.

It may just be that sometimes you leave a bit of air trapped in there and sometimes you dont. Provided all works no problem but if it becomes difficult to prime the carb it could be that the valves in the bulb are not seating properly.

Will refrain from suggesting little blue pills then

one correction, it fills all the carbs, not just the lower. also pointing the arrow on the bulb, to the sky, helps the valves in the bulb operate properly.

yea, it is a new primer bulb - and I noticed this over time. one time I'll go to start the motor and it squeezes solid and the next time it only gets firm, and you can feel that it is still moving air/liquid? I'll look for that arrow, I did not know that, probably it is squeezing gas back into the tank, but we'll take a look again.

tashasdaddy - pointing the bulb with the arrow up is exactly what I was looking for, never heard that before - thanks.
