Primer bulb placement

Does it matter where in the line from the fuel tank to the engine the primer bulb is placed? Currently in my 89 Ranger it's about 15" away from the fuel tank, under the cowl. This is fine except it's a PIA to get to since I have a mesh cover that snaps on and off and the snaps are a little tight. I suppose I could change out the snaps and try that, but it would frankly be easier to move the bulb in between the opening in the cowl and the engine, so it's actually outside rather than inside, thus more accessible.

Any thoughts on this move? I have another boat with a Mercury 90HP and it's out side hanging over the splashwell which is where this would end up. I'd try to rig it so it isn't anywhere near the water that backwashes into the splashwell.

Thanks.

I don't think it matters, it's just going to take longer to get it to prime.

Re: Primer bulb placement

Should not be an issue. Mine is less than 2 ft from the motor in the well.

i always place mine in the motor well, that way if there is a leak in the joint, it is not in the boat.
